Georgia DPS releases Holiday Traffic Count for Christmas Weekend

The Georgia Department of Public Safety has released their numbers for the holiday traffic count, concerning auto accidents in the state of Georgia over Christmas weekend.

A total of 9 traffic deaths were reported statewide during the 78-hour period beginning Thursday, December 24th thru Sunday, December 27. Six by state troopers, three by local agencies.

There was only one fatality in Northeast Georgia, it was reported by post 52, which is based in Hartwell and represents Hart, Franklin, and Elbert Counties. The Troop that reported the most traffic deaths was Troop E, where three deaths were recorded in Madison, Washington, and Grovetown.

State Troopers are gearing up for another holiday traffic count. The New Year holiday travel period will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, and end Sunday, January 3.
