GDOT to partner for “Operation Clear Track” for Rail Safety Week

On Tuesday, September 24, Georgia DOT will partner with Georgia Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (GOLI), a safety education nonprofit, for “Operation Clear Track,” a one-day event to raise awareness with the general public regarding pedestrian rail safety and rail trespassing laws.  During the event, Georgia law enforcement personnel will be stationed at targeted railroad grade crossing incident locations to hand out railroad safety cards to motorists and pedestrians, and issue warnings and citations to violators. The goal of Rail Safety Week is to reduce pedestrian and driver injuries and fatalities around highway-rail grade crossings and railroad rights-of-way tracks through increased education and enforcement.  The safety initiative is spearheaded by Operation Lifesaver, Inc. and Amtrak is the largest railroad safety law enforcement operation in the U.S. and will include more than 600 local, state, federal and railroad law enforcement organizations. Georgia Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia’s economy and is sensitive to its citizens and its environment.  For more information, visit www.dot.ga.gov.
