Flash Flood Watch Goes Into Effect Tonight

A flash flood watch will go into effect for Rabun County and the surrounding area later this evening.

The watch is in effect due to a storm system that is currently in the Gulf of Mexico this morning. James Oh with the National Weather Service said that the system is not expected to stay there, however.

“Right now it is still southwest of the area,” said Oh.  “We’re expecting tonight and into tomorrow, the center of the system will move across the Blue Ridge.”

As the system moves into the Northeast Georgia area, it will dump around 2 to 3 inches of rain.

The watch goes into effect at 6 p.m. today and will continue through 6 p.m. this evening.

In addition to Northeast Georgia, both Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina are included in the watch.
