Flash Drought Notice issued by NOAA for Southeast

The National Weather Service in conjunction with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association (NOAA) has issued a flash drought notice for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.  According to NOAA, a flash drought is defined as an event with greater than or equal to two categories of degradation in a four-week period based on the U.S. Drought Monitor. Record-breaking late summer and early fall heat and persistent short-term dryness have led to a sharp increase in drought intensity and coverage across our region.
