Clayton Woman arrested for Obstructing Law Enforcement

A Clayton woman stands charged with obstructing law enforcement officers and pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  On May 27, a deputy of the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office was approached by a motorist that said he was traveling south on Georgia 15 near Black Rock Mountain Road and that he nearly hit a woman walking in the road.  The deputy responded to the area and made contact with 28-year-old Tracey Louise Varela of Clayton, who was walking on the double yellow line.  When the deputy approached her, she began walking away.  The deputy observed that she was sweating profusely, talking rapidly and that her pupils were dilated with no reaction to light.  She was ordered to go inside her residence that was nearby but she refused and stood in the vicinity of the road and screamed obscenities.  The deputy then placed her under arrest but she attempted to physically resist.  She was eventually detained and transported to the Rabun County Detention Center for booking.
