City of Clayton Receives $91,000 Water Bill

The City of Clayton has received their first water bill from the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority, and according to Clayton Mayor John Bradshaw, the numbers don’t add up.

“I don’t know if you can say it’s fair or not, it doesn’t follow our contract. The last contract we had with the water authority says they will keep a reserve of $750,000 and if it drops below that they are supposed to let us know. Now, that being said, they can only spend the money on repair and maintenance. We have asked for proof that that’s what they spent the money on, or if it’s even dropped below $750,000, and so far we have not received a response from them.”
The City Council will meet to discuss the bill that totals $91,948.
“We’re gonna a special called meeting immediately following our work session on Tuesday.”
And how will this affect the water users of Clayton.
“Oh Lord, everybody’s water bill’s gonna go up. That’s what we’ve got to decide Tuesday, we’ve got some options. But that’s what we’ve got to discuss Tuesday, that’s the way I would prefer it.”
