City of Clayton improves Water Protection

The Clayton City Council approved a contract with ServLine Water Protection at its monthly meeting for October.  This new provider will improve water protection for customers, says Clayton Mayor Jordan Green.  “They are a third party essentially an insurance company.  Currently, the City charges every water customer $1.25 and we’ve for years done an in-house program where we forgive up to $1,000 on a water bill if you have had some type of major leak or event.  But after going through some internal figures we came up with the fact that just doesn’t work for us.  So, we approached ServLine and talked to them and also talked to some other municipalities in the North Georgia area to see what their experience with them was and it is actually a pretty positive experience.  On the flip side of that, the charge for the service will go up from $1.25 to $1.88; however, ServLine offers for that price per month $2,500 in coverage.  So, you are getting two and half times the claimable amount and that actually allows the City to recoup the money instead of just eating in-house.  So, that is why we moved forward with that.  We think it will be a positive change, not only for the customer but also for the City of Clayton.  So, to us, it is a win win.”  Customers have the option of opting out of the protection plan if they choose.
