Amendment made to Rezoning Hearings in City of Clayton

The Clayton City Council held a second reading to amend an ordinance for rezoning hearings at their monthly meeting for October.  This amendment now gives residents two opportunities to speak, says Clayton Mayor Jordan Green.  “That is a pretty cut and dry thing, it’s generally just some housekeeping that we did.  So, what that ordinance will allow for is if someone has a rezoning request, the Zoning Board will hear that.  The zoning hearing won’t happen at a City Council meeting, it will happen before them and they will give an opinion and from there the opinion will still come to the City Council for a final vote.  It is a two-fold process that allows two sets of eyes to look at an issue and garner an opinion but on the other side the person that is bringing the rezoning request forward if they feel like there is some kind of bias from the Zoning Board or whatever there still is a second chance that they could express that to the City Council if they feel like they have been mistreated.  That is the biggest thing it is housekeeping and more in line with what other governments do and something we wanted to move forward with.”  The ordinance for rezoning hearings now goes into effect for the City of Clayton.
