Stolen Goods Cross State Line

A phone call from a Swain County NC investigator has led to a warrant for North Carolina resident Melvin Corbett in Rabun County. Rabun County Investigator Sgt. Tony Free’s investigation showed that Corbett had pawned stolen items in Rabun…

“Anytime you bring stolen property into another state, in Georgia, the law is theft by bringing stolen property into state, he’s gonna be facing one count.”
Nine different pawn tickets from multiple pawn shops in Rabun County were found to be connected to Corbett…
“An Investigator from Macon County North Carolina, stated that on February 23rd, 2015, he had a burglary in his area and that one of the items that was pawned locally, a serial number matched, and with the other items that were stolen from the house without serial numbers totaled about 4 or 5 items that were pawned on the same day as the burglary in North Carolina.”
Tho only one charge in Rabun, multiple charges in North Carolina have Melvin Corbett on the run…
“North Carolina Law Enforcement has several different warrants on him from several different counties, several different areas have taken active warrants in pursuing him. Last known location is probably going to be the Asheville area, that I had heard.”
Sgt Free says 6 to 8 different Counties in NC are in search of Corbett.
