Sunday Hunting gets final approval

Governor Pat McCrory has officially signed into law legislation that will allow hunting with a gun on Sundays in North Carolina.

There are, however, several restrictions in place for Sunday hunting, which will begin on October 1. Some of those stipulations including no hunting on public lands, and no hunting at all between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in response to religious concerns. Also hunting will be prohibited within 500 yards of a church or a home not owned by a landowner.

County commissions will be able to ban Sunday gun hunting in their own counties, but such a ban would not be effective until October 2017.

Another provision of the bill raises the minimum weight for bear harvesting from 50 to 75 pounds.
