May Adoptions Could Alleviate Crowded Kennels

Paws for Life has seen an uptick in animals coming in, that Director Justin Willis says has put them way over capacity…

“Right now we’re sitting at about 171% capacity. We’ve got a total of 77 kennels, but we’ve got a 132 animals here. So you can see that, you know, we’re having to double up and triple up some kennels. Our big thing is trying to find transports to send the animals up north, they don’t have the over population that we have here.”

A transport will go out Friday with 26 dogs, bringing Paws down to about a 140% capacity. Willis says the real key to getting the numbers down will be to have a big month for adoptions in May…

“More adoptions, really for the cats. We were kind of inundated with them, a lot of the kittens we had have turned into the older adult cats now, those are harder to adopt, but I know that they can be placed. To get around a 100%, we would need about 80 adoptions, we’re looking at 40 to 50 dogs, 30 to 40 cats. That would get us down to around a 100%.”
