Groom Granted Bond

A man charged with murder in Rabun County is granted bond at a hearing Wednesday morning.

A bond hearing for Travis Groom concluded around 11:00 am Wednesday morning, and ended with the judge granting a $100,000 bond in the murder case.

Assistant District Attorney Maggie Hastings said the judge did place multiple conditions on Groom’s bond, however.

“He must be on an ankle monitor at all times, he must reside in Oconee County and not leave Oconee County, and he can have no weapons and no contact with any witness in the case.”

Hastings said both attorneys commented on the rarity of a bond being granted in a murder case.

“He was granted a $100,000 bond in this murder case, which is very rare for a murder case,” said Hastings. “Both attorneys actually pointed out how rare it is for someone to get a bond in a murder case.”

Groom is accused of shooting James Eugene Close Jr. in the early part of December 2012.
