Clarkesville Man found Guilty of Murder in Habersham Co.

A Clarkesville man has been found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of aggravated battery.  According to a press release from Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George Christian, on May 12, 32-year-old Jeramy Ray Chastain of Clarkesville was found guilty following a jury trial.  Sentencing will be held at a later date.  The investigation was conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.  The State was represented by Assistant District Attorney Meredith Davis and Assistant District Attorney J. Edward Staples, along with the Lead Agent for the GBI Kristen Perry.  The guilty verdict stems from an incident that occurred on March 7, 2020, after firefighters discovered the body of 43-year-old Alecia Stover outside her burning residence at 691 Yonah Post Road in Alto.  According to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, Stover died from blunt force trauma to the head.
