Hall of Fame
For the first time since 1996, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America will not be electing anyone to the Hall of Fame. Eligible candidates needed to be named on 75 percent of the 569 ballots submitted by members of the BBWAA, meaning 427 votes were necessary for election. Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio came closest by nabbing 68 percent of the vote, falling just 39 votes short of election. This is the eighth time a a Hall of Famer was not produced. This was Dale Murphy’s 15th and final year of eligibility for election into the hall of fame.

The National Hockey League has ratified a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Board of Governors voted its approval on Wednesday by a 30-0 vote. The last remaining step towards an official start to the 2012-13 season will be the Player’s Association’s ratification of that same agreement.
