Council Discusses Board of Education Sewer Rate

The city of Clayton discusses the cost of sewer for the Rabun County Board of Education.

According to discussion which took place at the Council’s work session Tuesday, the City Council sent a notice some time ago expressing their intentions to change the Board of Education to a consumption based rate for sewer, which the Board of Education then voted to turn down.

Clayton City Attorney Mitch Baker said discussions are set to take place Monday with Rabun County School Superintendent Matt Arthur regarding this issue, and that a possibility is the city taking no action at this time other than installing a new meter for the Board of Education.

“What I’m kinda proposing is that we stick to the status quo for one more year, and we get this meter installed, and we see how it affects their water usage and how those numbers matchup. Then maybe we can all agree to go to a better method of billing.”

As discussion between the two parties will take place Monday, it give the Clayton City Council an opportunity to vote on any necessary action at their regularly scheduled monthly meeting this coming Tuesday.
