Meeting of Rabun Gap Chapter of the BREDL

The first meeting of the Rabun Gap Chapter of the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL) is set for Wednesday, Sept. 25, tells Cherie Faircloth, one of the founding members.  “Community discussion will be centered around the question of “What’s In Your Water ” and issues of Rabun Apparel, LLC. The Little Tennessee as a drinking water source will be a primary focus.  We are pleased to have Mark Barker, Assistant Executive of the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League as a featured speaker. BREDL is a 501C3 organization that has been defending environmental justice and stewardship throughout Appalachia and the south since 1984.  We also welcome Dr. Bill Mclarney and Jason Meador of Mainspring, formerly Little Tennessee River (LTR) Land Trust, to address the river’s history with textile industries and the condition of these headwaters today. The Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority currently pumps water from the LTR  to service Rabun County’s North Loop newer customers. We welcome new members and memberships. All contributions to further our efforts of education, accessing open records, and protecting the environmental integrity of our treasured Southern Appalachian community are appreciated and are tax-deductible.”  The 6pm public meeting takes place at Saint James Episcopal Church, which is located at 260 Warwoman Road in Rabun Gap.
