Clayton City Council investigating Short Term Rentals

An investigation is underway by the Clayton City Council into short term rentals.  At their work session meeting on Tuesday, the council discussed ways to license and regulate these businesses that are becoming more popular in the city, explains Clayton Mayor Jordan Green.  “This conversation kind of started with we need to prohibit it and when I started looking into it and getting feedback from different individuals. It is kind of hard to prohibit something; A, once it’s already started and B, if you could regulate it and allow it to be a flourishing business it helps the tax base and a lot of things.  So, the biggest thing is I don’t want to take away from your rights, but you also have responsibilities that is the biggest thing that hopefully people will get from this is that we want to allow you to do stuff, but you still need to be responsible in doing it.” More discussion on the short term rental ordinance is scheduled at the Clayton City Council’s next regular meeting on July 16, at 4pm.
