Suspicious Fire Reported in Northern Rabun County

Several recent fires in the northern end of Rabun County have suspicious origins, including a barn in Dillard.

Speaking with Sergeant Tony Free, Investigator with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, says that he arrived to the scene of a barn fire located in Dillard off of highway 246, where it was fully involved.

Free also talks about the current state of the investigation, saying that the state fire marshal has been called to investigate, but no report has been received. Free also says that during the day of the fire (May 26), there was no lightning in the weather, nor was there power being directed to the barn.

According to a report obtained from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, Free spoke with a member of the Sky Valley Fire Department, where he was told that there had been several fires in the area that were suspicious in origin. The report calls this particular incident arson, until a thorough investigation is complete.
