Roadwork to Cause Delays in Hiawassee

If you live in Hiawassee, or plan to travel there in the upcoming days, the Georgia Department of Transportation wants you to be aware of some traffic work that will be done in the city.

Travelers on the Highway 17/75 bridge over the Hiawassee River could expect delays on their commute, as a traffic signal will control traffic over the bridge, one lane at a time, beginning on Thursday.

The Georgia DOT states that this will be done in order to regulate traffic, in order to demolish the original bridge, and finish constructing the new bridge.

This is expected to continue through May of this year, Talley Construction Company will complete replacing the bridge over the Hiawassee River by the contract completion date of June 30, 2016, costing $5.1 million.
