Multiple Sheriffs Warn the Public of Scams

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a telephone scam that has taken over the county in recent days. Residents claim that they are receiving calls from individuals who identify themselves as representatives from the IRS, or Publisher’s Clearing House.

With the Christmas season beginning, the Macon County Sheriff’s Department says that the amount of telephone scams increase. The Department warns residents to hang up the phone if there is any suspicion, and to never give out your personal information.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office is also warning their residents of a possible scam. The claim is that there is an individual driving a black Ford Crown Victoria, charging $55 to unlock cars who have locked their keys inside. The office provides that service for free as a courtesy.

If you have any information on this scam, or the identity of the person or persons doing this, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office would like for you to contact them at 706-839-0500
