Alcohol a Possible Factor in Weekend Crash

More details are available regarding the weekend crash that killed a Rabun County woman.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, alcohol may have been a contributing factor for sixty-four year old Durand Michael Carpenter of Dillard in the crash that occurred when his 2000 Isuzu Rodeo crossed the center line on Highway 76 East of Clayton, striking an oncoming vehicle head on.

One of the passengers in the other vehicle, forty nine year old Gail Ramey of Wiley, was killed following the crash, while the driver, twenty eight year old Elisha Dawn Ramey of Greensboro, was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital for fractures of her hip, pelvis, and legs, as well as internal bleeding, according to a Facebook page set up as a relief fund for her medical expenses.

The other passenger, twenty five year old Denise Nicole Ramey, was transported by EMS to Mountain Lakes Medical Center.

The Georgia State Patrol’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
