Willett S. Wooten

Willett S. Wooten, 78, Formerly of Anderson, SC passed away November 19, 2017 in Augusta, Georgia, with her family by her side.

 

Willett was born in Oconee County, South Carolina on September 3, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Simpson and the late Bessie Gillespie Simpson. She was a graduate of Oakway High School. In her professional life she worked for the Anderson Daily Mail where she was the editor for the Hometowner section. She worked for the paper for many years and retired after a long career with the Anderson Daily Mail. She was given and award from the national FFA for her coverage of the good works of the FFA. She loved her community and giving back. She was a volunteer with Hospice of Anderson County and Meals on Wheels, just to name a few. She was known to all as, “Happy”, a name given to her by her grandchildren because she was always so joyous. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

 

Willett was preceded in death by her parents. She was survived by her three daughters, Susan Burks (David) of Evans, GA, Mary Rosa (Vince) of California, Debbie Shanley Howard) of Six Mile, SC; ten grandchildren Kristin Smith, Stephanie Burks, Kayla Swaney, Jamie Swaney, Troy Mauldin, Jessica Rosa, Dawn Shanley, Michelle Shanley, Sinia Shanley, Brandon Rosa; and two great-granddaughters Lillian Bordenave, Emma Bordenave and one great-grandson.

 

There will be a graveside service in the New Silver Brook Cemetery Wednesday November 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM.

 

The family asks that in lieu of flowers the family asks that donation be made to Hospice of Anderson in memory of Willett Wooten.
