Water and Sewer Authority Member Expresses Concern

The Clayton City Council held a work session yesterday afternoon.

During the meeting, Billy Johnson, one of the members of the water and sewer authority appointed by the city of Clayton, expressed a concern that none of the water and sewer authority members were invited to the council’s special called meeting last week, where a proposed amendment to the contract that is in place with the water and sewer authority was discussed.

“If the council is going to discuss a matter regarding water and sewage, I feel like at least the invitation should be given to authority members to attend and defend themselves, especially by some of the comments that were made.”

Johnson goes on to say that following that meeting, in which the council discussed the authority’s reserve fund balance and whether or not the correct amount of funds were present, people in the community asked whether or not any “shady” business had gone on with the authority.

“Our character and our integrity as human beings were questioned, and that’s the troubling factor,” said Johnson. “Not that my feelings were hurt. I’m a big guy, my feelings don’t get hurt that easily.”

Also at the city council’s meeting, the possibility of turning Hiawasee Street into a one way street was discussed.
