Water and Sewer Authority Discusses Consolidation

The Clayton Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority met this morning.

One of the main topics of discussion was the Systems Consolidation Study from the Carl Vinson Institute.

Water and Sewer Authority Member Jerry Krivsky said that based on the study, he sees consolidation as a positive thing.

“I’ve read the first 50 pages 4 times,” said Krivsky, “and each time I read it, the more confidence I get that this is the direction the county should go.”

Authority member Billy Johnson said one thing to keep in mind is the way you approach consolidation.

“We do not need to get ourselves into a takeover state of mind if we do move forward with this consolidation,” said Johnson. “If we do move forward with this consolidation, we need that sense of mind that it is a merger.”

Buz Williams was present at the meeting and claimed the only way to achieve consolidation would be to raise the water rate, although both Authority Chairman Randy Speed and Authority Member Butch Darnell were both adamant that would not necessarily be the case.
