Water and Sewer Authority Bill Passes House, Moves to Senate

A new water and sewer authority is one step closer to being put into place.

According to the Georgia General Assembly, House Bill 496 which is an act to to create the new Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority, was passed in the State House of Representatives on Wednesday.

The Intragovernmental Coordination Committee favorably reported on the bill, and after the third reading it was approved by a 164 to 3 vote.

The piece of local legislation had its first reading in the Senate Thursday and was referred to the State and Local Governmental Operations Committee..

At a special called meeting nearly two weeks ago, the Clayton City Council voted to oppose the bill in its current form after expressing the feeling they had not been included in the negotiation process.

The city plans to meet with Senator John Wilkinson to discuss their stance on the bill.
