Walmart shoplifter gets ‘stuck’ behind Home Depot

As the saying goes, “don’t throw me in the brier patch,” one fleeing thief decided to do just that, in an attempt to elude law enforcement following her shoplifting spree at a local retailer.

Deputies from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched in reference to a female shoplifter who was running from Walmart.

Once the responding law enforcement officer arrived at the scene, he found the suspect hiding behind the Home Depot in a briar thicket.

Unable to move, the woman received assistance from the deputy to remove her from the thorny mess. Upon removing the woman from the briar thicket, the deputy noticed she was “scratched up and bleeding,” and called EMS to provide medical attention to the female.

Law enforcement identified the suspect as Rhonda Jill O’kelley, 43, of Toccoa.

O’kelley along with the deputy met with the Walmart theft prevention officer Keith Talley who confirmed the woman was indeed the suspect captured on video surveillance, along with an unidentified man, who attempted to steal merchandise that totaled nearly $800.

O’kelley was placed under arrest for felony shoplifting and was transported to the Rabun County Detention Center.

According to jail staff, O’kelley bonded out on Sept. 23 and awaits her court date.
