Vehicle break-ins at local state parks prompt tips to deter thieves

Two separate vehicle thefts occurring on the same day but at different state parks have prompted local safety officials to offer tips on how to deter thieves.

On Sunday, law enforcement responded to an incident at Black Rock Lake where they were informed of someone who had forced an entry into a vehicle and stole a purse.

The vehicle’s owner said he and his daughter were fishing just a short distance away when they returned to find the passenger’s side door unlocked and the minor’s purse gone.

Later on the same day, authorities responded to yet another vehicle break-in, though this time, at Tallulah Falls State Park.

The owner of the vehicle told deputies that while away hiking, someone had entered his vehicle through the back sliding window and taken a portable speaker.

Law enforcement advises that all though they cannot prevent vehicle thefts from happening, there are a few tips to keep your belongings safe.

It’s always good protocol to keep your vehicle locked while leaving it unattended for any period of time. This will help deter thieves looking to make a quick robbery.

Another tip law enforcement offered, make sure before you lock up and leave your vehicle, keep personal items out of sight such as a purse or wallet that could tempt someone from stealing it.
