UGA Big Part of World Cup

You probably know by now that Germany won the World Cup, but did you know that UGA was a part of almost every kick and goal throughout the tournament? According to Research Geneticists Wayne Hanna of the University of Georgia, the grass on most of the fields  comes from UGA…

“We had six of the fields at the World Cup who had USDA Georgia grasses that were developed.”

Hanna adds that its not new for athletes all over the world to play on UGA developed grass…

“Athletic field types of grass that we have developed here, have been used around the world. They’re used on golf courses, soccer fields, football fields, all kinds of athletic fields around the world.”

UGA grass was also apart of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
