On Friday the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to two single-vehicle accidents that ended with drivers injured and facing criminal charges.

The first wreck occurred just after 7:30 p.m. on the West Old Murphy Road when a 1995 Dodge pick-up ran off the right shoulder and the road and struck a tree head-on.

The driver sustained evident injuries and was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and registration and insurance violations.

The second occurred about an hour later on Burgess Road when a 1995 Chevy pick-up crossed the center line and went off the left side of the road, plummeted down an embankment and struck several trees.

The driver of that vehicle was taken to Angel Medical Center with evident injuries. He has been charged with DWI and reckless driving.
