“Todd Gurley Bill” Now in Place
Georgia set a new standard as Governor Nathan Deal put his pen to work one more time Thursday to sign HB 3. HB 3 otherwise know as the “Todd Gurley Bill” now puts laws in place to punish those who enter into or solicit a transaction with a college student-athlete that would result in sanctions to the student-athlete.HB 3 states that crimes of this kind will be considered to be a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature that can carry a penalty of up to a year in prison and fines up to $5000. The law also allows for Colleges to enter into a civil suit against those found in violation of the Bill. Georgia is the first state to put a law of this kind into effect.
