TNG Says “Call Before You Dig”

After helping get the Downtown Clayton area back to normal Wednesday following a gas leak, Toccoa Natural Gas is encouraging everyone to “Call Before You Dig.”

Regarding Wednesday morning’s events, Toccoa Natural Gas Northern Assistant Superintendent Rance Fleming reported that crews were able to get the line squeezed off within around ten minutes.

“They were in the area, so once dispatched over they went ahead and secured it first, and then they told the fire department everything was cleared and then they went ahead and made the repairs.”

Fleming said that calling before you dig is simple and free.

“We encourage to be sure, even if its just a shovel, you don’t know how the gas lines are run,” said Fleming. “Its a free service. You just call 811 toll-free and then the utilities are dispatched out to locate the line.”

Toccoa Natural Gas’ website advises calling 811 two days prior to beginning work.
