Takeback Day a Success

Rabun County residents turn in nearly two hundred pounds of unwanted medication last month.

Lisa Thompson, the coordinator of Safe Kids Rabun County, says that the national takeback day on April 27th was a huge success, with the National Drug Enforcement Agency just reporting the final numbers.

“We turned everything over to the DEA, and they called us with a report of 190 pounds of medication that was turned over.”

Thompson says that getting expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs out of the house is important, as poisoning is one of the top three unintentional injuries to children in Rabun County.

A pill drop box is permanently located in the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office.
