Students Perform Well in Competitions

Rabun County School Superintendent Matt Arthur recently took time to announce that several students have seen success in competitive endeavors.

Arthur said Rabun County High School recently took first place in the Region Literary Competition.

“That is the first time we’ve won, I know, in 18 years, and I can probably go back further than that,” said Arthur. “It’s a huge, huge achievement for us. I know when we built the fine arts center, its what we wanted to do, was to be represented.”

Many of those same students also did well in the State Literary Tournament.

Arthur also said that that the Rabun County High School Weightlifting Team did well at the USA Powerlifting Georgia High School State Championship.

“We had several students to go on to qualify for the National Sanctioned meet coming up in Mobile, Alabama next month,” said Arthur. “Our boys powerlifting team won first place, our girls powerlifting team won first place, and then Rabun County High School as a team won first place.”

During that competition, Justin Walker set an American Record in the Dead Lift.

The Rabun County High School and Middle School Bands earned superior ratings at a recent festival, and the FBLA Entrepreneurship team took third place in State.
