Sky Valley residents to vote on ‘Brunch Bill’

Residents exclusively to Sky Valley will have a chance to vote on whether or not to move Sunday alcohol sales to 11 a.m. instead of 12:30 p.m. in the upcoming Georgia General Election Nov. 6.

State lawmakers and Gov. Nathan Deal passed the law earlier in the year allowing restaurants on Sunday to offer earlier alcohol consumption times. However, in separate municipalities such as Sky Valley, voters must first voice their opinion on the ballot referendum.

The ballot will have a section for the Brunch Bill which will look like this: “Shall the governing authority of City of Sky Valley, Georgia be authorized to permit and regulate Sunday sales of distilled spirits, or alcoholic beverages for beverage purposes by the drink from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.?”
According to Rabun County Elections Supervisor Tammy Whitmire, to cast a vote on the Brunch Bill, voters will need to make sure to bring the proper identification with them proving they have a Sky Valley home address.
