Sides Drift Apart in Water Talks
In Tuesday night’s Clayton City Council meeting, a number to send back to the county as a counter offer for water and sewer assets could not be agreed upon. Councilman Roy Quilliams did make a motion of $8.2 million that was seconded by Brian Panell, but it was short lived as the remaining three council members voted against the counter offer. Mayor Bradshaw seemed frustrated over the matter…
“There’s some on the Council that’s never gonna look at what is best for our community. You know, I don’t know, I’m very disappointed to say the least. But we’ll back up, punt, and see what direction we can go.”
So how will the Mayor and the Council move forward with the matter…
“Jordan said he’ll sit down with me, and I’m gonna try and meet with Lee Robertshaw and some of them, and try and figure out what we got to do now, because we know the Water Authority is taking the plant back over. We know that when they start charging us per thousand(gallons of water) we have got to pay for the thousands that’s missing. I mean, you know, rates is obviously going to go up. So I mean we’ve got to sit down and seriously consider what it is we’re going to do and what our priorities are.”
A date for future discussions has not yet been set.
