Sheriff warns of unmarked vehicle pulling people over

According to law enforcement, a new scam has people pulling over for an un-official vehicle posing to be an officer.

The incident initially began in Habersham County according to Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell who first announced the scam via social media.

The post alerted the public instructing everyone to take extra caution to take notice of an “unknown male subject driving a black Dodge Charger attempting to pull people over by flashing the car’s headlights.”

According to Terrell, all of his deputies have vehicles with blue lights, even if the cars are not marked.

“The driver is a white male in his mid to late 50’s with salt and pepper hair and a gray or white goatee,” Terrell said.

Law enforcement advises if someone is flashing their lights at you trying to get you to pull over, don’t — turn your emergency flashers on and call 911.

“Even if the car has blue lights, you are free to call 911 and ask if the vehicle behind you is indeed an officer,” Terrell said. “Remember, you can use your phone to make an emergency call while driving.”
