See Fall Colors in Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests

This is a popular time to hit the trails of Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests to see the beautiful fall colors in the mountains of North Georgia, says Steven Bekkerus, Public Affairs Officer with the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests.  “Now is the perfect time to come up and see the fall colors.  The peak of fall colors is usually right around Halloween so we are just getting into that time period now.  The lower elevations will be a little bit later than the higher elevations so there should be a good mix and I definitely recommend folks to go out and see those colors and visit the local communities and businesses.”  If you’re hiking, biking, or riding the trails this season, please remember a few key things that will help keep you safe, adds Bekkerus.  “The first thing is to know before you go.  Know where you are planning to visit, know what to expect, and you can visit our website and look up different recreation sites or trails that are available to take a hike on or go visit or a safe drive.  We have scenic byways across the forest with scenic routes.  So, do a little research and know what to expect.  The second thing is just to prepare.  We have some tips on our website and you can plan ahead and know what to expect.  Bring water, bring some warm clothing as the weather can change and be kind of cool, especially at the higher elevations.  So, just be prepared and know your own skill level, and understand that there are risks out in the forests.  You need to stay on the trail or the road.  Just be responsible for your own safety.”  For more information, visit https://www.fs.usda.gov.
