Justin Verlander threw a masterpiece in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series, and the Detroit Tigers put themselves on the verge of a World Series berth with another win over the New York Yankees. Game 4 takes place tonight.


Game 3 of the National League Championship Series between St. Louis and San Francisco, which is even at one game apiece, is set for this afternoon. The Cardinals won Sunday’s opener before the Giants responded with a 7-1 triumph on Monday.

The National Hockey League and NHL Players Association met for several hours through the early afternoon on Tuesday, with a significant proposal from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on the table. If the NHLPA accepts the terms, a full 82-game regular season would be set to begin in early November.



The NFL will double its exposure in the United Kingdom next season, with the league announcing two regular-season contests: one between the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh which will be held at London’s Wembley Stadium in August. The other between the New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams in October.
