The St. Louis Cardinals pushed the Giants to the brink of elimination with an 8-3 triumph in Game 4 of a National League Championship Series at Busch Stadium. Barry Zito will try to keep San Francisco’s season alive in Friday’s Game 5, while Lance Lynn will toe the rubber for the Cardinals as they look to close out the series in front of their home crowd.

NHL

NHL Players Association supplied three separate proposals to the National Hockey League on Thursday in an effort to end the league’s ongoing lockout. The NHL, however, turned down all three proposals and the meeting broke up after a little more than an hour. The lockout, which began on Sept. 16, has already caused the cancellation of 82 games from Oct. 11-24.
