Scam Targeting Habersham EMC Members

A new scam is circulating in Northeast Georgia, reports Nicole Dover, Director of Strategy and Communications for Habersham EMC.  “Habersham EMC has been notified that some members have received telephone calls stating their power will be disconnected unless they make a payment through them or by calling a number provided. Members should hang up at once and report the call to their local law enforcement. Do not give out any personal information. If HEMC members have questions regarding their accounts, customer service representatives can be reached at (706) 754-2114, (706) 865-4362, or (800) 640-6812.”  Habersham EMC, an electric cooperative based in Clarkesville, serves more than 26,000 members with 3,800 miles of line in six counties of Northeast Georgia.
