Running May Not Be a Good Idea

On feb the 11th an officer with the Rabun County Sheriff’s department  was patrolling Warwoman Rd. when he saw a maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling East bound. As he passed the vehicle, he noticed the vehicle  swerve over to the right side crossing over the white fog line. He  turned around and began following the vehicle. he waited until a safe location and activated his emergency lights to  initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle began to pull over then all of the sudden the vehicle began to accelerate. The officer reported he I was involved in a pursuit,and activated his  siren. The pursuit continued down Highway 76 E, with speeds reaching 100 miles an hour the officer  judged road conditions to be favorable and traffic was light so he continued the pursuit. While following the suspect the officer witnessed the vehicle he was chasing come close to losing control multiple times,and a long list of traffic violations.as the chase entered into south carolina speeds continued to increase.The officer slowed his vehicle to stay safe but still observe the suspect vehicle.The chase continued down woodall shoals road in South Carolina which is a dirt road and the chase came to an end when the driver lost control and rolled his vehicle. Suspected drugs were found on the driver and at the scene of the accident.

 

The driver was identified as Aaron Keith Keener. When asked why he ran he answered that he didn’t want to

Go back to jail.

 

Aaron Keith Keener was arrested by South Carolina authorities then extradited back to Georgia.

He is currently in the Rabun county detention center with a bond of 12,775 dollars
