Region’s Unemployment Rate Up
The Georgia Department of Labor announces January’s unemployment rate for this area.
In the Georgia Mountains Region, the unemployment rate rose by four tenths of a percentage point from December of 2012 to 8 percent.
That is down from January of 2012 when the region’s unemployment rate was 8.5 percent.
In the region, there were nine hundred and forty two new claims for unemployment benefits in construction, manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, administrative and support services, healthcare and social assistance, and accommodations and food services.
In Georgia, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for January was 8.7 percent, the same as December but down from one year ago.
