RCWSA receives Updates on Projects

The Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority (RCWSA) received updates on two current projects and approved a resolution accepting infrastructure from the county at their meeting on Tuesday.  The first project dealt with switching the south system in Clayton to billing meters, explains RCWSA General Manager Brendan Thompson. “Basically by contract when we settled the lawsuit that we had over the Boggs Mountain Water System, part of that settlement agreement was to put in a number of meters for the City of Clayton whereby they would have field meters that we would do our billing from versus the meter at the Water Plant itself.”  The second project concerns the new office-shop building currently under construction on Yorkhouse Road, tells Thompson. “It’s at 1650 Yorkhouse Road. It is a 4,800-square-foot building with 3,000-square-foot of shop space and 1,800-square-foot of office. That will house the staff for the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority. The shell of the building has been erected and we are moving forward with building out the interior walls starting this week and then move forward the other utilities such as electricity, plumbing, and IT work.  That will be on-going for the next four months and we are looking at a move-in date in January.” In addition, the RCWSA approved a resolution accepting the golf course, building and grounds and coroner’s sanitary sewer infrastructure from the Rabun County Board of Commissioners, adds Thompson. “It was a SPLOST project that was done over the last year to provide sewer service to that basin there where the golf course, building and grounds, and the new coroner’s office is to be located. It is about 4,400-linear-feet of eight-inch sanitary sewer and about 25 manholes.  This was just basically a formality that the Commissioners went ahead and turned it over to us to operate it and own it.” The Authority also heard from Thompson that the current budget year is wrapping up and that an audit is scheduled for next month.
