RCWSA Looking to Take Action over Service Area

The Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority are examining their assets in the Tiger area, near Boggs Mountain Road, and are prepared to take action.

The Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority held a special called meeting this week to discuss this subject, and Brendan Thompson, General Manager of the Water and Sewer Authority discusses the area, and says that they have been working with the county, as well as the Rabun County Board of Education, to re-affirm what was turned over to them in 2006. Thompson also says that the authority has been maintaining that asset for the last few years.

However, Thompson says that there is an issue with the area. Even though the water and sewer authority have maintained that area, the City of Clayton claims the area’s water customers, and has billed those customers. This issue has been a part of the ongoing battle between the county water authority, and the City of Clayton, for service delivery strategy. Thompson says that since the County authority is servicing that area, that they should be the ones billing those customers.

On Monday, the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority called a special meeting in Rabun Gap, where the objective was to speak with members about the issue, and to state their intentions of putting this issue before a judge, and attempting to claim what they believe is theirs.

Thompson says that he hopes that a hearing is scheduled within the next 30 days.
