RCSO hosts 12th annual car show to benefit SHOCK

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Jeff Southard this year to host the annual car show which will benefit the Sheriff Helping Out Community Kids (SHOCK) fund.

“Myself and Doug Hamilton had been brainstorming for a while about some sort of show to benefit the local kids, we had talked about Toys For Tots or Shop With A Cop or something similar but could never come with the right situation,” Southard said. “It was after a meeting last month with Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols that everything finally started to come together and the direction was set to change the charity on our existing Labor Day Weekend show.”

The annual car show is expected to attract more than 200 cars and more are always welcome according to Southard. Each entry is $20 which will go to benefit SHOCK.

Additionally, there will be over 125 awards that will be distributed as well as a delicious breakfast and lunch for the purchase.

According to Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols, SHOCK was created so that he along with his department can assist local kids as needed — not only at Christmas time but throughout the year as funds allow.

“I think there are a lot of organizations in our community that help already, but I think there’s room for another one to help the children. I don’t want to see any kid suffer or be deprived of something that could be easy for me to get. That one ball glove may make a difference to that child if they were able to have their own,” Nichols said.

The event will be held on September 1 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. located at Clayton City Hall.
