RCSO deputies receive car seat certifications

Deputies at the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office are working hard to keeping children in our county safe before they are involved in an accident.

Sheriff Chad Nichols announced that two of his deputies recently received their certifications in becoming licensed car seat technicians.

According to county statistics, only a small percentage of residents in Rabun County have their car seats properly installed.

As a means to resolve that, both Deputy Hooper and Deputy Buchanan will now be offering their services to the public to help promote car seat safety and show residents the proper way of installing them.

According to officials, the number one mistake that parents make is they don’t make the harness tight enough. Also, health experts also say the longer your child can remain rear facing, the safer they will be, and that most convertible car seats will seat children up to 40 lbs.

If you need assistance installing a car seat or would like to confirm that your seat is installed properly, Nichols suggests to stop by the Sheriff’s Office and have one of these deputies inspect it for you.
