RCFS partnering with American Red Cross for Smoke Alarm Blitz

This Saturday, the Rabun County Fire Department will be joining forces with the American Red Cross to hold a “smoke alarm blitz” in Mountain City.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Justin Upchurch, as a part of the Community Risk Reduction Program, RCFS along with the American Red Cross, and volunteers from the community will hold the smoke alarm blitz this Saturday, June 8th from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Upchurch said teams consisting of Fire Fighters, Red Cross and community volunteers will be working to target Mountain City and will be going door-to-door helping residents check for working smoke alarms, develop a fire escape plan and provide additional fire safety information.

For homes without working smoke alarms or where the alarms are out of date, the firefighters will install 10-year lithium battery smoke alarms for free.
