Rabun soon to see recovery residence for addicts

The National Institue on Drug Abuse estimates that nearly half of the homes in the United States have encountered some form of addiction.

In Rabun County, those estimates are likely higher with little resources for struggling addicts to seek help and get on the path to recovery.

Thanks to a dedicated group of former addicts themselves who have experienced the ups and downs of recovery, Freedom Ministries Lighthouse will be opening a recovery residence in Mountain City.

Collectively, Dan Crane Director of Operations, Ashey York as Case Manager and Pastor/Founder Joel Winchester will be opening their doors in March to addicts in need of a helping hand.

The faith-based recovery center was funded from a $200,000 donation, which allowed the Lighthouse team to secure a 4,000 sq. ft. building that will be used as an intake building as well as offer Saturday night services. Additionally, the recovery center is located directly behind the intake building and will house 16 men on site in the 3,500 sq. ft. building.

The recovery residence was approved nearly a year ago to be court mandated as a part of drug court, meaning that addicts will have a choice if offered to either serve time behind bars or come clean with the help of Lighthouse Ministries.
