Rabun seeing 2-year low gas prices

For nearly two months in a row, Rabun County has continued to see lower and lower gas prices.

According to the AAA Gas Report, gas prices have declined on average 62 cents over the eight week period – leaving Rabun, and surrounding areas in good shape for holiday travelers looking to fill up before their road trips.

Currently, Rabunites are filling up for an average of $2.26/g at the pump – a 2-year low according to the report.

According to AAA Spokesman Garrett Townsend, the gas prices will continue to drop through the holiday season.

“Coming within just a few days of when people are going to be hitting the road for the holiday season is good news,” Townsend said. “Gas prices will most likely continue to drop.”

Townsend said the reason behind the drop is predominately due to oil prices have been unable to gain significant upward momentum after OPEC announced plans to cut production.

If oil prices drop even further this week, that would reduce the cost of producing gasoline and allow additional price cuts at the pump which would really give motorists a reason to celebrate this holiday season.
