Rabun gearing up for Mardi Gras on Main

According to Linda Scofield of the Rabun County Welcome Center, what initially started as a pop-up, has now become what the Chamber of Commerce is calling the Inaugural Mardi Gras on Main Street.

The inaugural event is slated for February 23 starting at the Rabun County Chamber of Commerce where people can pick up their passports to begin their taste of Mardi Gras by visiting 60 local businesses who will be participating in the festivities.

According to Scofield, once visitors have filled their passports with stamps from the participating businesses, attendees of the event will end their trip at the Clayton Cafe where stamps will be tallied up for a chance to win some great prizes.

Scofield added that by introducing this event to the community, it’s the Chamber’s way of offering a fun activity in what can be a rather monotonous month with the little tourism activity.

Participants can RSVP to the event on Facebook by searching for “Mardi Gras on Main” and are welcome to pick up a passport anytime between now and February 23.
